Goaltender Rules

Playing games are a great means of exercise and fitness to the players. However without any games and regulations, there will not be any discipline in the game and everyone will be dictating their own rules. This is why all games that are played have their own set of rules which is specific to the game. Even the game of hockey has a set of rules; where there is a set of rules for the players and another set of goaltender rules for the goalkeeper.

It was in July 22, 2005 that the new NHL goalie rules were implemented where major changes were made to the existing hockey goalkeeper rules. The new rules were implemented with the intention of boosting chances and scoring to the game of hockey. This set of goaltender rules not only have rules pertaining to the game of hockey, but also has many goalie equipment regulations that have to be met.

With the NHL goaltender equipment regulations, there are specifications that have to be met regarding the hockey sticks, goalie masks, goalie gloves and other attire and equipment that the goaltender uses. This means that a goaltender that does not follow there regulations will face the possibility of losing their chance in goaltending for the match they had prepared to play. This is why it is important that the goaltender be wary of all the goaltender rules to avoid any confusion and loss at the start of an important hockey game.

The new set of goaltender rules indicate shorter leg pads, blockers, gloves and jerseys that tend to expose the legs and thus make the goaltender more vulnerable to injury. Then of course, there are field hockey goalkeeper rules that have to be met and followed in the set of the goaltender rules.

These rules include goaltender rules on hooking, slashing, cross checking, tripping and interference and provides the action that referees have to follow when these rules are not met. Then there are matters pertaining to the length of the game like decision of tie games, the length of a typical game and the amount of extra time that can be allotted to a team if and when required.

In addition to all this, there are different aspects of goaltending that are covered in the set of goaltender rules. It is up to the goaltender to be well aware of any changes and modifications made to the goaltender rules, so that they can play their game of hockey legally, and supportively.
