Hockey Socks

Hockey socks are part of the official uniforms of hockey teams and are actually required equipment for all professional hockey teams. The term "hockey socks" brings to mind a pair of socks made specifically for people who indulge in the sport. If you really think about it, hockey socks are just a pair of socks that they have labeled for use in the sport and can be used for whatever purpose you see fit, right? Wrong.

They are actually different from traditional shoe socks that you wear inside your shoes and are worn to help protect the shins of the hockey player. The two major hockey variations that are often played are ice hockey and field hockey and they both have their own version of hockey socks. Ice hockey socks and field hockey socks are essentially built in the same manner and design, however, the difference in playing fields often have these two made in different materials.

How do you wear hockey socks? They are actually worn in a few distinct ways, depending upon the preference of the player wearing them. How to wear hockey socks can depend upon whether the player wears it over the skate tongue, tucked under the skates or any which way they feel comfortable with it. While there are skate socks to be worn inside the skates to keep the sweat from saturating the inside of the skate shoe, some players opt not to wear these sanitary socks for hockey due to preference.

There are also other reasons why hockey socks are necessary for hockey players. Take for example, the use of field hockey shin guards’ socks. Aside from sporting the team colors on these socks and completing the team's uniform, field hockey shin guard socks have shin guards stitched in the front parts. While the shin guards are secure enough due to their straps, these hockey socks provide added security for the player, keeping them from worrying that their shin guards will fall off or the straps will break.

Hockey socks come in many different shapes, colors, prices and designs. There are vertical stripe hockey socks, pink hockey socks, navy colored hockey socks and even discount hockey socks. One of the more famous sports brands around even has their own line of hockey socks. Nike hockey socks are also called Swift hockey socks because of the Nike Swift Hockey Apparel line that was created for Team USA. Custom hockey socks are also available for teams that want their uniforms well coordinated. Oh, and as for the question as to whether or not hockey socks can be worn any other way? They can, as novelty hockey sock hats called “sockeys.”
